Professor Adrian Hobbs obtained a BSc Pharmacology (First Class Honours) at King’s College London in 1989 and remained at the same institution to complete a PhD in Pharmacology (1992) supervised by Dr Alan Gibson. Subsequently, Adrian moved to the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Prof Louis Ignarro, in the Pharmacology Department at UCLA, supported by Fulbright-Hays and American Heart Association Fellowships. At the end of 1996, Adrian returned to the UK to take up a post-doctoral position at University College London under the mentorship of Prof Sir Salvador Moncada. Since that time he has established an independent research group with extensive peer-reviewed support from the Wellcome Trust & British Heart Foundation, as well as securing personal funding through Wellcome Trust Career Development and Senior Fellowships.Adrian’s research interests centre on the guanylyl cyclase family of enzymes and the actions and interactions of nitric oxide and natriuretic peptides in the cardiovascular system.
